Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP)
Eanes ISD is very excited to participate in the SSEP program. Student in both the middle school GT program and the 8th grade IPC classes will participate in the flight experiment design competition, and students district-wide will participate in the Mission Patch Design competition.
The guiding question in this experimental design will be:
What physical, chemical, or biological system would I like to explore with gravity seemingly turned off for a period of time, as a means of assessing the role of gravity in that system?
Students will design experiments in groups of 3-5, and write formal scientific proposals for the experiment. Then, they will conduct the experiments, and present them at the district science night on November 13th. Activities in class will lead up to the writing of the proposal and conducting of the experiment.
Proposals will be sent to a district level committee that will contain both Eanes ISD staff and community members. The committee will select three finalists to submit to the National Center for Earth and Space Science Education. The National Review board will then select one experiment to fly to the International Space Station. It is important to note that experiments will be judged based on the formal written proposals submitted by each team.

Due date for the first ROUGH draft of the proposal is October 17. The second draft is due on October 30. Final drafts are due on November 7.
Our Space Science Night will be held on November 13. All student teams will present their tri-fold boards at this event.
Mr. Finan, our Science Instructional Partner, will be available to confer with students about their SSEP work on the following dates, except for 6th period:
Friday, October 10
Wednesday, October 15
Thursday, October 16
Students may come from lunch or Wildcat Time if they are unable to see him during our class times.
Week of October 27-31: Mr. Finan is off campus but may reply to email: [email protected]
