Welcome to the Gifted and Talented Program!
I am looking forward to a wonderful and productive 2018-19 school year!
The Eanes Independent School District is committed to an educational program that recognizes the special value, needs, and talents of the individual student. Gifted students need a qualitatively differentiated program that provides time for work with other gifted students and time for work on creative self-directed projects. EISD provides appropriate educational services for identified gifted and talented students as part of its overall K-12 program.
The GT program provides a rich curriculum, which develops and reinforces skills in critical and creative thinking, logic and problem solving, divergent thinking, research, and communication.
The focus of the EISD GT Program is to serve students who have instructional needs due to exceptional potential in both intellectual and creative abilities. Because each district has different qualification guidelines, children, including students new to the district, will need to be assessed in order to be recommended for the Eanes ISD Gifted Program.
The gifted program incorporates core content areas of science, social studies, math, and language arts within interdisciplinary units of study in the elementary and middle school pullout programs. In high school, students are provided with multiple opportunities through academics (Pre-AP and AP courses), Fine Arts, Engineering, Independent Study Mentorship Program, Robotics, and other programs.

Fall Semester:
Our 2018-19 theme for GT is "Community: Making It Matter." We will examine this theme throughout the fall semester with a focus on the following skills:
Critical Thinking
Interpersonal Relationships
Quality Work
Self Discipline
Creative Thinking
Time Management
Problem Solving
Risk Taking
As always, we will continue to incorporate higher level thinking skills through the use of Sandra Kaplan's depth & complexity icons and interdisciplinary connections.
Generalizations:
- A community has members
- Community members share a common environment
- Communities follow patterns of growth and change
- When one community comes in contact with another community, change may occur
Key questions:
- What is community?
- What are the individual’s responsibilities to the community?
- What are the community’s responsibilities to the individual?
- In what way can communities influence possibilities for future generations?
Spring Semester:
Our spring semester goal will be for students to continue developing their fall group project or to develop an in-depth individual project on a topic of great interest. Students will be given class time for project work in groups or as individuals, and may also spend outside time working on their projects if they so choose. There are three main criteria for these projects: New Learning for each student, a demonstration of Creative Thinking (either in the product itself or in the display of it), and Higher Level Thinking (analysis, depth and complexity, etc). Important Note: If students are not enjoying the project they have selected, then they have chosen the wrong topic!
